Cloud computing is no longer just a trend for the future, but has long since found its way into many companies. The advantage of cloud computing has been recognised, especially in SMEs. Hardware and software no longer have to be set up by companies themselves, but can use the service of the cloud. This often results in not only more safety, but also savings in costs and increased efficiency.
Cloud computing differs from three interlinked service models: IAAS, SAAS and PAAS.
What is cloud computing?
However, before this article discusses the three different service models of cloud computing, it should first be clarified what the generic term is.
Cloud computing describes how to offload data, information, systems, and applications into a cloud. This, in turn, makes usage available anytime, anywhere, using the right IT resources. For this purpose, the cloud uses a special network. One such is, for example, the Internet, so that installations on local computers are no longer necessary for the user. Cloud computing also offers additional flexibility through use via interfaces, protocols or a web browser.
Three different service models
The three different service models IAAS, SAAS and PAAS are superimposed layers that relate to the architecture of the three pillars of infrastructure, platform and software. You can already see that in advertising. It may also be worth creating banners.
The abbreviation IAAS stands for I nfrastructure As A Service. It describes a cloud service in which the user gains access to IT tools, such as servers, storage and network components, via a provider. Companies can use their own applications, systems and platforms within the infrastructure. This also gives the advantage that the user does not incur any costs for the purchase of hardware. Instead, it is billed only as needed. In addition, expensive maintenance costs of company-owned hardware are unnecessary. But IAAS also offers many advantages in other aspects. This saves you massive time, because you can now handle administratives virtually and it is no longer time-consuming and manual.
In addition, the Cloud Service IAAS also provides greater security. On the one hand, thanks to the cloud, the data is no longer in danger of a single point of failure. On the other hand, you get a much better scalability provided. This makes it possible to customize the infrastructure to meet your own storage and processing requirements.
The Shortterm SAAS stands for S oftware As A Service. It describes the second pillar of cloud computing services. This is permission to access a provider’s software in the cloud. As a as a as a as a way, SAAS users do not need to install their own applications locally and can instead use the cloud network offering. This is possible via the web or an API.
Access from anywhere at all times also allows project teams to work together on a project online. The software is provided in the form of a subscription model. As a result, it does not entail any further requirements such as the user’s independent management, installation or upgrade, as these tasks are taken over by the provider itself.
The user can adapt the SET IT resources individually for himself. In addition, SAAS provides great security, as there is virtually no data loss, not even due to a device error.
P latform As A Service is abbreviated by PAAS. This is an offering within the cloud that provides the user with a cloud environment for developing, managing, and deploying applications. In addition, PAAS provides a large amount of storage space and the necessary IT resources. But also predefined, helpful tools for testing, development and hosting applications and systems can be done via PAAS.
The cloud service has the advantage for businesses that they can fully focus on their actual work, the development of applications. Additional requirements, such as building your own infrastructure, are eliminated because they are now deployed to the cloud via PAAS. But also other tasks such as security requirements, the management of the operating systems as well as the software for the server is carried out exclusively by the provider.
Thanks to the possibility of worldwide access at any time, especially virtual teams, with members at different local points of view, can benefit enormously from PAAS.
