A website is now more than just information that exists on the Internet and is rarely accessed. Often, companies even generate a large part of the revenue from such a website. Another example are online shops, which sell products to end users exclusively via a website and represent a so-called digital business model.

Such a website is now standard for companies and should not be missing in any company. On the one hand it serves as an information channel for e.g. shops and bars for opening hours and directions as well as for companies with their own products or services as a sales channel.

Agencies are often expensive

When you ask an agency about the price of a website, you are often told very high prices and you don’t understand why it’s so expensive. An agency will work out website requirements in a workshop and map all the important interfaces and processes of your company. This type of project planning and implementation starts from a cost of €5,000 and can also amount to tens of thousands of euros for large website projects.

But do companies really need such an adapted website or can existing frameworks be used to save several thousand euros?

Website are now inexpensive to create

Most online shops and websites are set up on existing systems. For online shops, these are like Magento, WooCommerce, Shopware or Shopify. For smaller webshops, you can also use systems such as WIX and Jimdo. Shop kits are available on the web from 20 € per month.

Using existing CMS systems

Existing websites use the CMS (Content Management Systems) WordPress, Joomla, Typo3 or Drupal. WordPress is now the most popular content management system for creating websites and blogs. With these systems, a company can create a website almost without programming knowledge.

The technical basis is provided by the PROGRAMMING language PHP. The data is stored in a MySQL or MariaDB database. But don’t worry: you don’t get much of it. You use the software via a clear interface and can manage, organize and publish content such as texts and images on the Internet.

CMS systems need a hosting provider

Shared hosting is the most common and cheapest form of web hosting. This is often found in a web project, which is not very complex. A company finds itself on a server with many others and shares performance and resources. This is the cheap version of web hosting.

This kind is almost always enough for a website with A CMS system and up to 50,000 visitors. As I said, many pages also run under the CMS WordPress, which is the market leader. There are special WordPress hosts for this purpose. For example, some hosters offer a dedicated WordPress solution with automatic installation. The price starts at 4.95 euros per month. So you need a common CMS and a hosting performance. A good overview of such services can be found on this page. Especially for WordPress there are not much requirements for a good hoster. The advantage is that you can choose the more cheap providers.

Websites with the homepage kit

As the term “building kit” reveals, it is a kind of software with which a company can quite easily put together its own website. In summary, such homepage kits are very simple and actually offer basic possibilities for simple websites.

Meanwhile, the market of homepage construction kits like Jimdo, Strato, 1 and 1, Wix and many more is booming. The prices are very varied and there are numerous providers. Prices range from free (often with advertising) to 100 euros. You can now choose from the many providers how much you want to pay and which functions should be included.

A special advantage are the finished templates and templates. Without programming knowledge, a Web page can be quickly created on existing templates. Examples are a small café or a bicycle shop. You will receive existing images and surfaces with sample texts. In general, it is often not necessary to reinvent the wheel, but to build on existing experiences.

Advantages and disadvantages of homepage building kits

The advantages are that you have to take care of little and actually have little effort. The disadvantage, however, is that without prior knowledge, one often does not know which guidelines are necessary in the creation of homepages. Be it call to action or perfect SEO optimization. Beginners are often in the dark here. Call to Action is a “call to action” such as booking an appointment in your own barber shop or contacting an agency for an initial consultation. SEO optimization means optimizing a page to Google’s policies. This means that the site is found much better and thus more visitors come to the websites and take a closer look at the company’s services.

What is also often a neglected area is the establishment of a homepage and the adaptation to the customer. Thus, a homepage must first be coordinated with the customers and provide it exactly the information he or she needs. The site also needs some effort to advance google and achieve top rankings.

Buy a finished homepage as an alternative

Often companies don’t need their own website after a while and want to sell it profitably. Buying a website means building on the success of your predecessor and being able to use the knowledge. Also, the website may already have first top rankings and the creator can give valuable hints.

There are some marketplaces that specialize in the creation and sale of websites. In the form of classified advertisements, the websites are offered and the pricesvary. It is important to find a good offer here and to negotiate well. But the effort can be worth it.

Conclusion

A website is important for companies and indispensable. Companies need to think hard about such a website. Often companies are deterred by agencies and believe that a homepage is always expensive. However, a website can now be created cheaply by so-called content management systems. An alternative are also homepage construction boxes or the purchase of an existing website. No matter how you decide the way to your own website doesn’t have to be expensive and heavy. It is now easy to create your own website. It is best to try one of the many free homepage kits for the beginning. You’ll notice how easy it is.
