In the course of my doctorate, I supervised numerous bachelor’s and master’s theses. From the point of view of a supervisor, you learned a lot and summarized these tips for bachelor’s thesis and master’s thesis for you. Overall, I believe that you can be very successful in your work with these 7 key points. In the following you will find tips for your bachelor’s and master’s thesis!

1. You don’t have to win a Nobel Prize!

I often notice that many students set a very high goal. On the one hand, everything is to be analyzed, improved and put into a framework that helps every industry and every person in Germany and better still the world. These high goals make the work more and more spongy in the end, as you only have 30 – 60 pages available. Therefore, limit the subject strongly and remember: less is more!

Reading tip: Find topic

2. Don’t expect too much from the caregiver!

At the end, always remember that your supervisor already has a bachelor’s or master’s degree. It’s up to you, not the caregiver. That’s why you set the pace and are responsible for finding interviewees and literature. Rely only on yourself in your work! But surely the supervisor has some tips for bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis!

3. Request feedback!

Although you shouldn’t expect too much from the caregiver, it’s he/she who gives you the grade. Therefore, it is best to request feedback every 14 days. It is not optimal to surprise the supervisor at the end with a finished bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis. At the beginning, ask for tips for your bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis directly! If you have exciting tips, you can send them to me by e-mail.

4. Think positively!

Even if you keep finding new literature and many others have worked on your subject much better than you, you remain positive. In the end, you only write a bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis and it is clear that a research institute gets it a little better than you.

5. Slowly the squirrel feeds!

There are 2 things that were not built in one day. These are Rome on the one hand and your bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis on the other. Take a good month and read in peace. You also need to count time for interviews. Each interview you have to set and evaluate tediously. The result is often soberingly little, but it still takes you a little further. In small stages to the destination.

6. Use your bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis!

A bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis can be a door opener for the job. Therefore, choose a topic that has something to do with your job. For example, as a software developer, a protoyp would be very good or as an introduction to marketing the investigation of Scrum in marketing or predicitve Analysis would be very appropriate. After that, you should publish the work and make it available to readers. I like to publish free works on my blog.

Reading tip: Publish bachelor’s thesis

7 . It’s not housework!

A bachelor’s thesis or master’s thesis is not a housework. You don’t just write a 30- to 60-page text, which should entertain the reader. They are obliged to contribute a part to research. The goal is to apply 2-3 research methods cleanly. Therefore, look carefully at their application beforehand and deal with what is actually a scientific work.

Scientific work is reflected in a systematic and methodically controlled combination of independent and creative thoughts with already existing scientific findings. The procedure is carefully, conceptually clarifying and subject-oriented or discipline-related (Bohl 2008, p. 13).

This means that you should build on existing knowledge and gain further knowledge through the careful application of a research method. This is best still in terms of your research discipline. Example: Management research sees agility differently from, for example, physics and computer science.
